An ordinance concerning libels And for other purposes
Sec. 1 Be it ordained by the council of the city of , that if any person or persons shall write or publish <in said > any false statesment, for the purpose of exciting the public mind <against peace and good order of said ,> or shall slander any portion of the inhabitants of this , or shall in any manner or form, excite the prejudice of the community against the any portion of the citizens of this , <for evil purposes> he or they shall be deemed a<a> as disturbing disturbans <of> the peace, and upon conviction thereof before the mayor or municipal court, shall a <be> fined <in any sum,> not exceeding one hundred dollars, or imprisoned not exceeding six months, or both at the discretion of the Mayor or court.
