Sir Mr of Illinois who is now confined in the jail of Marion Co in this on a charge of assisting in stealing horses from this county requested me to write to you and say that he wants you here as a witness on his trial which will take place on the 21st. of this month at this place he also wished me to say to you that Mr Charles Patton and Dakin Killian are material witnesses and hopes that no ordinary affairs will prevent you all from being here— I will only say that it would be an act of friendship to him if you can come as he will not of course go into trial without the witnesses— & if the man is innocent it is pity that he should have to lie in jail any longer than is necessary—
