At the 12 May 1843 Nauvoo City Council meeting, Samuel Smith applied to be returned money for fines imposed on him for the year 1842. His application was accepted and this order written. The transaction was recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger 5 July 1843. (Nauvoo City Council Rough Minute Book, Nov. 1842–Jan. 1844, 15; Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger, 6, 96.)
