28 Oct. 1792–24 Oct. 1886. City recorder, notary public, attorney, judge, farmer. Born in Donaghmore, Co. Tyrone, Ireland. Son of Alexander Sloan and Anne. Married Mary Magill. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ordained an elder, 28 Oct. 1837, in Columbiana Co., Ohio. Ordained a high priest, 18 Feb. 1838, in Columbiana Co. Moved to Daviess Co., Missouri, by 1838; to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1839; to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, by 1840; and back to Nauvoo, by 1841. City recorder and clerk of municipal court, 1841–1843. Served as church clerk, 2 Oct. 1841–30 July 1843, in Nauvoo. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Clerk of high priests quorum and war secretary of Nauvoo Legion, 1842, in Nauvoo. Elected notary public, 26 Sept. 1842. Served mission to Ireland, 1843. Served as district clerk of Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, 1848–1851. Moved to Sacramento Co., California, by 1860. Joined Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, by 1876. Died in Sacramento, Sacramento Co.
