As late as April 1834, JS remained concerned that he would not be able to go to Missouri because of pressing debts. (JS et al., Kirtland, OH, to Orson Hyde, 7 Apr. 1834, in JS Letterbook 1, pp. 82–84.)
A March 1833 revelation explained that God had called JS “to preside over Zion in mine own due time.” In August 1833, JS told Missouri church leaders that God would allow him “to settle on an inhe[r]itance on the land of Zion in due time but when I do not know.” What he did know, JS continued, was that he had “been keept from going up as yet for your sa[k]es.” (Revelation, 8 Mar. 1833 [D&C 90:32]; Letter to Church Leaders in Jackson Co., MO, 18 Aug. 1833.)
