Russell, Alpheus Clark
Biography
7 Apr. 1795–21 Oct. 1861. Farmer, teacher, justice of the peace. Born in Middlefield, Hampshire Co., Massachusetts. Son of Alpheus Russell and Rebekah Clark. Married Elizabeth Conant, 28 May 1818, in Becket, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts. Congregationalist. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1818. Introduced Merino sheep to Ohio. Appointed school examiner, 16 June 1829. Owned quarry that supplied stone for building Kirtland temple. Appointed to board of directors for Western Reserve Teacher’s Seminary, 26 Feb. 1839. Plaintiff in case of Alpheus C. Russell v JS et al, 12 Mar. 1844. Died in Kirtland.
