Biography
12 Oct. 1814–1 Nov. 1897. Teacher, farmer. Likely born in Vinalhaven, Fox Islands, Hancock Co., District of Maine. Son of Malatiah Luce and Ruth Grant. Taught school, by 1837, in Vinalhaven. Married Lurena Hopkins, 28 Mar. 1841, in Vinalhaven. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, late 1841. Purchased land from JS and Emma Smith, 1 Nov. 1841; purchased additional land in Hancock Co., 1842, 1843. Settled in Sonora, Hancock Co. Buried in Hamilton, Hancock Co.
