Biography

28 Sept. 1806–25 June 1879. Blacksmith, brick maker. Born near Brighton, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania. Son of John Hill and Nancy Warrick. Moved to East Liverpool, Columbiana Co., Ohio, by Dec. 1826. Married first Mary Bell, 7 June 1827, at East Liverpool. Joined Methodist church, 2 Aug. 1828. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Joseph Wood, Aug. 1833, at Liverpool, Columbiana Co. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1834. Wife died, 1835. Excommunicated, by fall 1835. Rebaptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8 Nov. 1835. Married second Eliza Wright, 7 July 1836, at Geauga Co. Moved to Missouri, 1836; to Iowa Territory, 1839; and to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1840. Ordained a priest, 9 Mar. 1842. Served mission to Pennsylvania, 1842–1843. Ordained a high priest by Isaac Higbee, 8 Dec. 1844, at Nauvoo. Moved to Utah Territory, by 1850. Bishop of Salt Lake City Second Ward, 1854–1864. Served mission to Province of Canada, 1857–1858. Moved near Bear Lake, 1864. Lived at St. Charles, Rich Co., Utah Territory (later in Bear Lake Co., Idaho), 1870. Died at Fish Haven, Bear Lake Co. Buried at St. Charles.
