Biography
23 Dec. 1791–Apr. 1867. Carpenter, millwright. Born in Tiverton, Newport Co., Rhode Island. Son of Perry Durfee and Annie Salisbury. Married first Electa Cranston, ca. 1811, in Tiverton. Moved to Lenox, Madison Co., New York, by 1820. Moved to New London, Huron Co., Ohio, before 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, before 1833. Moved to Jackson Co., Missouri, by 1833. Married second Elizabeth Davis Goldsmith Brackenbury, 3 Mar. 1834, in Clay Co., Missouri. Moved to Far West, Missouri, ca. 1835. Ordained an elder, 29 Apr. 1836, in Kirtland. Moved to Daviess Co., Missouri, Dec. 1837; to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, 1838; and to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, 1839. Labored on Nauvoo temple. Ordained a high priest, Dec. 1845, in Nauvoo. Married third Magdalena Pickle, 21 Jan. 1846, in Nauvoo. Moved to Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co., Iowa, before 1850. Excommunicated at Council Bluffs, 1850. Moved to Fisher, Fremont Co., Iowa, by June 1860. Married fourth Sarah, before 1860. Moved to White Cloud, Mills Co., Iowa (possibly White Cloud, Doniphan Co., Kansas). Died at White Cloud.
