Biography
26 Mar. 1797–19 Dec. 1863. Farmer. Born at Honeydon, Bedfordshire, England. Son of John Fielding and Rachel Ibbotson. Immigrated to Upper Canada, 1832. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Parley P. Pratt, 21 May 1836, in Black Creek, Charleton Settlement (near Toronto), Upper Canada. Stockholder in Kirtland Safety Society. Moved to Toronto, Mar. 1837. Ordained a priest by Parley P. Pratt, Apr. 1837, near Toronto. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, May 1837. Served mission to Preston, Lancashire, England, 1837–1841. Ordained an elder by Heber C. Kimball, 29 Oct. 1837, at Preston. Ordained a high priest by Heber C. Kimball, 1 Apr. 1838, at Preston. Served as mission president, 1838–1840. Married Hannah Greenwood, 11 June 1838, at Preston. Led group of Latter-day Saints to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1841. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 11 Apr. 1844. Moved to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1846; to Salt Lake City, 1848; and to Great Salt Lake Co., Utah Territory, by 1850. Died at Millcreek.
