3 Nov. 1772–2 Feb. 1847. Farmer, miller. Born at Oakham, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. Son of Benjamin Knight and Sarah Crouch. Lived at Marlboro, Windham Co., Vermont, by 1780. Married first Polly Peck, 1795, in Windham Co. Moved to Jericho (later Bainbridge), Chenango Co., New York, ca. 1809. Moved to Windsor (later in Colesville), Broome Co., New York, 1811. Universalist. Hired JS, 1826. Present at Smith family farm when JS retrieved gold plates, 1827, at Manchester, Ontario Co., New York. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Oliver Cowdery, 28 June 1830, at Colesville. Moved with Colesville branch to Thompson, Geauga Co., Ohio, Apr.–May 1831, and to Kaw Township, Jackson Co., Missouri, July 1831. Married second Phebe Crosby Peck, by Oct. 1833, in Missouri. Moved to Liberty, Clay Co., Missouri, Nov. 1833. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1840. Ordained a high priest, ca. Sept. 1844, at Nauvoo. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Died at Mount Pisgah, Clarke Co., Iowa.
