Wasson, Lorenzo D.
Biography
1819–28 July 1857. Born in New York. Son of Benjamin Wasson and Elizabeth Hale. Lived at Harpursville, Broome Co., New York, by 1836. Moved to Farmington, Fulton Co., Illinois, Aug. 1836; to Palestine Grove, Ogle Co. (later Amboy, Lee Co.), Illinois, Dec. 1837; and to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Oct. 1840. Resided with JS in Nauvoo. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by JS, 20 Mar. 1842, in Nauvoo. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Received elder’s license, 18 Apr. 1842, in Nauvoo. Served mission to New Jersey and Pennsylvania, summer 1842. Moved back to Broome Co., before July 1843. Married first Marietta Crocker, 9 July 1843. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 11 Mar. 1844. Escorted body of JS from Mansion House to basement of Nauvoo House, where JS was buried, 29 June 1844. Rejected from Council of Fifty, 4 Feb. 1845. Married second Aurelia H. Gaylord, ca. 1848. Died in Amboy.
