Biography

1 Jan. 1789–4 July 1872. Merchant. Born at Rockingham, Windham Co., Vermont. Son of Uriah Roundy and Lucretia Needham. Married Betsy Quimby, 22 June 1814, at Rockingham. Lived at Spafford, Onondaga Co., New York. Member of Freewill Baptist Church in Spafford. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by William E. McLellin, 30 Jan. 1832. Ordained an elder by Orson Hyde and Samuel H. Smith, 16 May 1832. Lived at Elk Creek, Erie Co., Pennsylvania, 1833. Moved to Willoughby, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio, by 1834. Member of the Seventy, 1836. Migrated to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri. Located at Warsaw, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1839. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., 1840. Appointed member of a bishopric in Nauvoo, 19 Jan. 1841. Member of Nauvoo Legion. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Joined Nauvoo police force, 1843. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 4 Mar. 1845. Ordained a high priest, by 25 Dec. 1845. Bishop of Winter Quarters Fifth Ward at Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska). Member of Brigham Young pioneer company, arriving in Salt Lake Valley July 1847. Bishop of Salt Lake City Sixteenth Ward, 1849–1856. Died at Salt Lake City.
