Biography
5 Sept. 1765–26 Feb. 1847. Farmer, physician. Born at East Haddam, Middlesex Co., Connecticut. Son of William Cowdery and Hannah Emmons. Raised Congregationalist. Married first Rebecca Fuller. Moved to Wells, Rutland Co., Vermont, ca. 1787. Appointed surveyor of highways, 1792 and 1803, at Wells. Moved to Middletown, Rutland Co., 1809. Wife died, 1809. Married second Keziah Pearce Austin, 18 Mar. 1810, at Middletown. Moved to Williamson, Ontario Co., New York, 1810; back to Middletown, ca. 1813; to Poultney, Rutland Co., by 1820; and to Arcadia, Wayne Co., New York, by 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Served as president of Kirtland priests quorum. Died at Kirtland.
