The drawings of the three buildings appear to have been included when the plat was initially drafted. Light gray watercolor around the three buildings was added later.
While the Kirtland plat neither shows nor explains if or where any commercial, agricultural, or financial buildings would exist, the city of Zion plat provides some explanation on those matters. (See Plat of the City of Zion, ca. Early June–25 June 1833.)

The following are cardinal directions that appear, respectively, on the left, bottom, and right of the page, with the plat oriented north side up.
The following is a transcription of the text that appears on the eight streets running south to north, or from bottom to top, with the page oriented north side up. The numbers “4” and “6” respectively indicate how many rods wide the streets were meant to be. In addition to the number “6,” the number “2” was inscribed several times along the east side of the fourth column of blocks, on the fifth street running north to south, to indicate that additional space was to be included for the street that ran by the three buildings.
The following is a transcription of the text that appears on the eight streets running west to east, or from left to right, with the plat oriented north side up. The number “4” indicates how many rods wide the streets were meant to be.
TEXT: Because of page damage, some numbers on this block are missing or only partially visible.
