Miller, William (Baptist minister)
Biography
15 Feb. 1782–20 Dec. 1849. Farmer, author, military officer, preacher. Born in Pittsfield, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts. Son of William Miller and Paulina Phelps. Moved to Hampton, Washington Co., New York, 1786. Married Lucy Phelps Smith, 29 June 1803. Moved to Poultney, Rutland Co., Vermont, 1803. Elected sheriff, 1809, in Poultney. Commissioned a lieutenant in Vermont militia, 21 July 1810. Served in War of 1812. Returned to Hampton, 1815. Elected Hampton town supervisor, 1821, 1829, and 1832. Licensed as Baptist minister, Sept. 1833, by Low Hampton Baptist Church. Elected justice of the peace in Washington Co., 1835. Founded Advent faith (later Seventh-day Adventist Church), 1845. Died in Hampton.
