I walked up there— 20 men Were to be detailed— I was present when the men were selected— I can recollect one two of them— one was named Stevens [Henry Stephens]— they went— when I joined them— I knew that a company was going to to kill the Smiths— I joined them in order that I might aid go and till <tell> — thinks they would not have let me left for that purpose— had a slight acquaintance with — after I first went to — I Started to — They put me under guard that night after I heard the conversation, and told the guard to keep me there— dont know who composed the guard— after I went up where they were talking, they turned round and saw me— they talked to me, but cant say who it was that talked— they immediately afterwards ordered me to be put under guard— dont know of any other person put under guard that night— dont know how many men were guarding me— did not Count them— supposed the whole company would have watched if I had attempted to go away— Some sat at the forepart of the tent, and some in the back part— of the tent— I lay down in the tent and went to sleep.— <*> <*> The facts as set forth in the book are many <most> of them correct as I stated them to [p. 24]
