At the 17 February 1842 Nauvoo City Council meeting, several councilors (including Brigham Young), assigned their salaries to the city until further notice. At the 15 April 1843 council meeting, Young retracted part of that assignment to pay his taxes for the year 1842. The council allowed this action and Sloan filled out this certificate requesting the city treasurer to pay the city collector the amount of Young’s taxes. This transaction was recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger on 8 May 1843.
