This Indenture made and entered into this second  day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred  and forty six two between Joseph Smith and Emma his wife of  the County of Hancock and State of Illinois of the one part  and Martha Knight of the County of Hancock and State  aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said Joseph  Smith and Emma his wife for and in consideration of  the sum of One hundred and fifty Dollars to them in hand  paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do here by  Grant Bargain Sell Convey and confirm unto the said  Martha Knight her heirs and assigns forever all that tract  or parcel of land situate and being in the county of Hancock  in the State of Illinois Viz being the equal undivided half  of South half of Lot No One in block One hundred and twenty  six in sd. county as recorded on the plat of the town of [p. 168]
