In connection with the developing organizational structure of the church, a November 1831 revelation appointed JS to be the “president of the high priesthood,” to which office he was ordained on 25 January 1832 during a conference at Amherst
to be his counselors in the “ministry of the presidency of the high priesthood.” This revelation called Gause to be faithful in his assignment. Although he complied at the outset, Gause had disassociated from the church by the end of 1832 and was excommunicated on 3 December of that year.
Hiram Portage March 15. 1832.” An unidentified hand later lined out “Jesse Gause” and inserted “Frederick G. Williams.” The 1835 Doctrine and Covenants included this revelation with a date of March 1832 but gave no location.
