copied this text into Revelation Book 1 as “28th Commandment AD 1830” sometime between March and June 1831. It is addressed to the church with the explanation that it was given to “Joseph the Seer” by an angel.
The 1833 Book of Commandments assigns a date of “September 4, 1830,” as does the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants. Other period documents, however, offer circumstantial evidence supporting an August 1830 dating.
