Biography

26 June 18171–1 Sept. 1875.2 Born at Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., New York.3 Son of John Smith and Clarissa Lyman.4 Baptized into LDS church by Joseph H. Wakefield, 10 Sept. 1832, at Potsdam.5 Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1833.6 Labored on Kirtland temple.7 Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834.8 Appointed member of First Quorum of the Seventy, 1 Mar. 1835, at Kirtland.9 Served mission to eastern states with Lyman Smith, 1835.10 Served mission to Ohio, 1836.11 Arrived at Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, from Kirtland, 16 June 1838, and soon located at Adam-ondi-Ahman, Daviess Co., Missouri.12 Member of Adam-ondi-Ahman high council, 1838.13 In exodus from Missouri, located north of Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois.14 Ordained member of Quorum of the Twelve, 26 Apr. 1839, at Far West.15 Served mission to England, 1839–1841.16 Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1841.17 Married to Bathsheba W.
