Carter, Gideon Hayden (Haden)
Biography
1798–25 Oct. 1838. Born at Killingworth, Middlesex Co., Connecticut. Son of Gideon Carter and Johanna Sims. Moved to Benson, Rutland Co., Vermont, by 1810. Married first Hilah (Hilda) Burwell, 1822. Moved to Amherst, Lorain Co., Ohio, 1831. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by JS and ordained a priest by Oliver Cowdery, 25 Oct. 1831, at Orange, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio. In Amherst, ordained an elder and appointed to serve mission to Ohio, 25 Jan. 1832. Left to serve mission to Pennsylvania, Apr. 1832. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by Sept. 1832. Married second Charlotte Woods, 31 Dec. 1833. Stockholder in Kirtland Safety Society. Served on Kirtland high council, 1837. Member of Kirtland Safety Society, 1837. Migrated to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, 1838. Killed in battle of Crooked River, in Ray Co., Missouri.
