11 July 17671–23 Feb. 1848.2 Lawyer, diplomat, politician.3 Born in Braintree (later in Quincy), Suffolk Co., Massachusetts.4 Son of John Adams and Abigail Smith.5 Lived alternately in Braintree and Boston, from 1772.6 Studied law at Harvard University.7 Married Louisa Catherine Johnson, 26 July 1797, in London.8 President of U.S., 1825–1829.9 Moved to Quincy, 1829.10 Served as U.S. representative from Massachusetts, 1831–1848; championed civil liberties and opposed slavery.11 Died in Washington DC.12
