Biography

3 Sept. 1802–15 Sept. 1870. Schoolteacher. Born at Worcester, Otsego Co., New York. Son of Jared Pratt and Charity Dickinson. Moved to Ohio, 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1831. Ordained an elder by Sidney Rigdon, 10 Feb. 1833, in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. With David Patten, carried dispatches from JS to church leaders in Clay Co., Missouri, Dec. 1833. Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834. Ordained a seventy and appointed member of First Quorum of the Seventy, 28 Feb. 1835. Married first Hannah Ward, 1 Jan. 1837, at Kirtland. Among exiles forced from Missouri to Illinois during winter 1838–1839. Located at Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Aug. 1840. Married second Wealthy Eddy, 1 Mar. 1841. Ordained a high priest, by 8 Oct. 1844. Served mission to eastern states, 1844. Appointed president of church conference at Greenwood, Steuben Co., New York, 5 April 1845. Migrated to Utah Territory; arrived Oct. 1851. Died at Salt Lake City.
