Board kiln, Kirtland Township, Ohio

Used to dry wood for building projects, principally for temple in Kirtland.1 Possibly located near Mormon sawmill, as dried wood was finished at mill; JS’s scribe Warren Parrish wrote that kiln was near temple.2 Caught fire several times, 1835–1836.3 Size unknown, but kiln could contain “much lumber,” and about two hundred Latter-day Saint men worked to put out one of its fires.4 See also “Kirtland Township.”
