Chenango County, New York 



Created in south-central New York state, 1798.1 Population in 1830 about 37,000.2 In this county, Josiah Stowell employed JS as farmhand and millworker, 1825–1827.3 JS married Emma Hale in South Bainbridge, Chenango Co., 1827.4 JS was charged with and acquitted of misdemeanors in county trials, 1826 and 1830.5 In spring 1831, LDS members of Colesville branch, from Chenango and Broome counties, left area and traveled to Ohio.6 See also “Bainbridge Township.”
