The first name used to denote the church JS organized on 6 April 1830 was “the church of Christ.” At a 3 May 1834 conference, church leaders approved changing the name to “The Church of the Latter Day Saints.”1 A revelation dated 26 April 1838 incorporated both previous official names: “For thus shall my Church be called in the Last days even the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.” Usage during JS’s lifetime varied.2
