Shortly after the JS revelation calling for the construction of the Nauvoo House was dictated, a charter was submitted for the legal incorporation of the Nauvoo House Association. That charter was approved by the Illinois legislature on 23 February 1841. (An Act to Incorporate the Nauvoo House Association [23 Feb. 1841], Laws of the State of Illinois [1840–1841], pp. 131–132.)
