Hyde was probably referring to the board of trustees of the Nauvoo House Association rather than the committee appointed by the Council of Fifty in March 1845 to review the financial records of the association. William Clayton, a member of the committee but otherwise unaffiliated with the Nauvoo House Association or its board of trustees, did not note in his journal any Nauvoo House Association business following the 7 April 1845 meeting of the shareholders at which the committee’s report was presented to the association. Moreover, when the new committee was organized by the Council of Fifty, council members referred to the board of trustees as “the committee of that house appointed by revelation and chartered rights.” (Clayton, Journal, 7 Apr. 1845; Council of Fifty, “Record,” 22 Mar. 1845.)
