probably you will recollect him as round the with the Prophet & to see my cousin Burgess near farm— he has promised to let me [have as] much money as I want not exceed[ing] $30,00 on my placing the Deed of lot in his possession until he c[an be] repaid— I offered him the Deed of fraction but he refused to take it [in] consequence of it not being recorde[d] <he said he did not think an entire lot worth over thirt[y] >
You will confer a great favor up[on me] by sending me the Deed throu[gh the] Post at your earliest convenien[ce] in case brother Erskine is coming do[wn] soon you may send the same by him we are owing eight dollars for rent now & have not the first cent towards it—
If has found my character I shall feel grateful by him sending me the same through the Post Office—
Give my love to all friend[s] in & accept the same fr[om an] unhappy brother in the Covt
P.S The Doctor’s who have attended my Father in law say his going in a consumption so all hopes of support from his labor are cut off [p. [3]]
