But I mu[s]t say A word more about the . They have the sole direction of Erecting the great , under the prop[h]et, who is sole “trustee in Trust,” for all public funds of the , according to the laws <Statuets> of , & this committee are under bond to the trustee for a faithful application of all funds, but it appeard that somebody had thought, that somebody had surmised that some of the committee had taken a little better pay for <to> themselves & some who had been laboring on the than they had given to others, & had used a little partiality,— So thus Somebody <Complaint was> presented a complaint, and the committee, <, & > came up on trial.— all pled prfect innocenc. some more innocent than others, but the . , Brother to the pophet, <who is prophet to[o] as well as patri[ar]ch,> said the committee could not talk. <much,> but he could and would defend them, for he had been on a temple committee himself & knew all about the mill.— & it was a perfect mill & graind close, & he would tell the whole of it. it reminded him of the boy who saw something on a tree. & he went & told his father he had seen an Elepha[n]t on a tree. but his father did not believe it, <but on> going to look, found an owl on the tree, Now (said the ) the complnts agai[n]st this committee are not an Elephat, but an owl.— Now the <I see what> <it is its an owl”> is a very brave, shrewd, sort of a fellow. somethng like the pophet, & I dont want to contradict him while I stay among them, <The saw more than I could for> but I must say I looked close, & <all I> could not see any <no> owl.
