I clerk of the Municipal court in and for the City of , in said , do certify that Joseph Smith, whose signature appears to the foregoing Deed, and, who is personally known to me to be the person described in, and who executed the same, did acknowledge that he had executed the said conveyance for the uses and purposes therein mentioned.

This Indenture, made and entered into this fourth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four between and Polly Goff [Mary Elizabeth Kimbrough Goff] his wife, of the county of and state of of the one part, and John Leonard of the and aforesaid, of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said and Polly his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars, to them in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do hereby grant, bargain, sell, convey, and confirm unto the said John Leonard his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of Land, situate and being in the county of in the state of , viz: a part of Lot No one in Block No (157) one hundred and fifty seven of the City of commencing at the North East corner of said Lot & running thence South (109½) one hundred and nine feet six inches, thence West six Rods, thence North to the North line of said lot, thence East to the place of beginning be the same more or less.
Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging, or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold the above described premises unto the said John Leonard his heirs and assigns forever. And the said and Polly his wife, their heirs and assigns, the aforesaid premises unto the said John Leonard his heirs and assigns, against the claim or claims of all and every person whomsoever [p. 214]
