At the 12 August 1843 Nauvoo City Council meeting, the council ordered that various city officers, including those listed here, be paid for their services. This order was issued 4 December 1843. The transaction for Hyrum Smith was recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger on 11 December 1843. TEXT: After each dollar amount there is an “x” (not reproduced here), presumably added by William Clayton to keep track of which transactions he had entered into the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger. Clayton also inserted “Entered” before each name.

The transaction for Kimball was recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger on 11 December 1843, though the amount given in the ledger is $3.00. An insertion below for the entry for George J. Adams reads “H. C. K.”—Heber C. Kimball’s initials. There is no entry in the ledger for Adams. Apparently Kimball received the money for himself as well as for Adams. (Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger, 101.)

There is no transaction for Adams recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger. It appears that Heber C. Kimball received the $1.50 for Adams as well as the $1.50 for Kimball; this $3.00 transaction was recorded in the ledger on 11 December 1843. (Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger, 101.)
