Biography
12 Apr. 1809–2 Nov. 1865. Farmer, cooper. Born in Oxford, New Haven Co., Connecticut. Son of Gideon Riggs and Susan Pitcher. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by 1820. Served as election clerk, 8 Sept. 1830, in Kirtland. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by 15 Feb. 1833. Ordained an elder by JS, 15 Feb. 1833, in Kirtland. Served mission to New York, spring 1833. Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834. Ordained a seventy, 1 Mar. 1835, in Kirtland. Married Milinda Hanson, 17 May 1835, in Geauga Co. Appointed a president of Quorum of the Seventy, by 17 Aug. 1835. Moved to Mount Pleasant, Henry Co., Iowa, by Mar. 1840. Appointed trustee of Iowa Hospital for the Insane, ca. Mar. 1861. Died in Mount Pleasant.
