Seventies Hall, Nauvoo, Illinois
Summary
Two-story brick building located at northeast corner of Parley and Bain streets on land donated by Edward and Ann Hunter. Construction began, fall 1843. At least one wall completed, by 16 Mar. 1844. Windstorm toppled wall, 16–17 Mar. 1844. Rebuilt under supervision of John D. Lee, 1844. Used as meeting place, school, and art studio, 1844–1845. Sidney Rigdon proposed his assuming guardianship of church at meeting held in hall, 7 Aug. 1844. Building dedicated by Brigham Young, 26–30 Dec. 1844. Second floor served as frequent meeting place of Council of Fifty, 1845. Sold to James Furness, 1 June 1846. Later used as church and school. Demolished by 1869.
