Priestcraft
Summary
The misuse of religious authority for personal gain or prestige. The Book of Mormon stated that “priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain, and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion.” An 1830 revelation stated that the world was corrupt partly because of priestcrafts. JS stated that the spread of the restored gospel would deliver people from prevailing priestcraft.
