And now this calling & commandment give I unto all  men that as many as shall come before my Servent Sidney  & Joseph embracing this calling & commandment shall be  ordained & sent forth to preach the everlasting gospel  among the Nation crying Repentance saying save yourselves  from this untoward generation & come forth out of the  fire hating even the garment spotted with the flesh—  And this commandment shall be given unto the Elders  of my Church that every man which will embrace it  with singleness of heart may be ordained & sent [p. 48]
A few weeks after Sidney Rigdon’s baptism in fall 1830 in Ohio, Edward Partridge journeyed with Rigdon, his friend and former minister, to New York to visit JS. The pair arrived in early December 1830. This revelation is directed expressly to Partridge.
The revelation confirms Partridge’s call to the ministry. The elder’s certificate issued by Rigdon implies, but does not state explicitly, that he ordained Partridge an elder on 15 December 1830.
John Whitmer copied this text into Revelation Book 1 as “39th Commandment Decm 9th AD 1830” sometime between March and June 1831. An unknown scribe (possibly Christian Whitmer) made a copy of this revelation sometime in May or June 1831, only a portion of which is extant. The 1833 Book of Commandments dates this revelation to December 1830 at Fayette Township, New York, as does the 1835 Doctrine and Covenants.
