Benton, Abram Willard

Biography

16 July 1805–9 Mar. 1867. Physician, merchant. Born in New York. Studied medicine with physician Nathan Boynton, before 1830, in Bettsburg, Chenango Co., New York. Member of Presbyterian church. Moved to South Bainbridge (later Afton), Chenango Co., by Oct. 1830. Became member of Chenango County Medical Society, 13 Oct. 1830. Married Hannah Johnston, ca. 1830. Wrote letter attacking JS to editors of Evangelical Magazine and Gospel Advocate, published Apr. 1831. Moved to Sterling, Whiteside Co., Illinois, 1837. Moved to Fulton, Whiteside Co., by 1854. Served as Fulton town supervisor, 1854–1855, and town trustee, 1855. Died at Fulton.
