The ’s declaration was inscribed below the affidavit, and continued onto the verso of the leaf. A praecipe was inscribed on the verso below the declaration. All three documents were enclosed in a wrapper on which a docket and filing notation were inscribed.
Before me the Clerk of the District Court for said County, this 14th day of September A D 1844. Came , administrator of the Estate of Joseph Smith deceased, who being duly sworn on his oath says, that the Steam Boat “Maid of Iowa” is wrongfully detained by <Charles Ross—> and that he the said , as administrator as aforesaid, has good right to the present possession thereof— and that said boat was not taken from said by writ of , or in on any judgment against him, nor for the payment of any tax, fine, or assessment against said —
