Footnotes
This serialized history drew on the journals herein beginning with the 4 July 1855 issue of the Deseret News and with the 3 January 1857 issue of the LDS Millennial Star.
The labels on the spines of the four volumes read respectively as follows: “Joseph Smith’s Journal—1842–3 by Willard Richards” (book 1); “Joseph Smith’s Journal by W. Richards 1843” (book 2); “Joseph Smith’s Journal by W. Richards 1843–4” (book 3); and “W. Richards’ Journal 1844 Vol. 4” (book 4). Richards kept JS’s journal in the front of book 4, and after JS’s death Richards kept his own journal in the back of the volume.

Probably Caroline Adams, wife of George J. Adams, who had lived in Philadelphia. Alternatively, this name may refer to Harriet Denton Adams, wife of James Adams.
Five days earlier, after receiving a letter from Sybella Armstrong accusing Winchester of slandering her character, JS told Willard Richards that the Twelve “ought to silence Winchester.” At this 27 May meeting, Winchester was charged with “improper conduct slandering the Saints in Philadelphia for rejecting the council of Hiram, Joseph, & the Twelve & tearing to peaces the saints instead of building up.” After lengthy discussion, members of the Quorum of the Twelve, together with JS, Hyrum Smith, and others, voted that “Elder Winchester be silenced & give up his lisence & come with his family to Nauvoo.” (Clayton, Journal, 22 May 1843; JS, Journal, 22 May 1843; Woodruff, Journal, 27 May 1843; Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, Minutes, 27 May 1843.)

TEXT: Possibly “am all”.
Two days later, the Twelve voted to counsel the Philadelphia Saints to move to Nauvoo and prepared a statement to that effect for publication. (JS, Journal, 29 May 1843.)
