To the Honourable Aldermen and Counsellor of the City of —
The Petition of the undersigned Citisens of the City of respectfully represent—
That for the protection safety, good order, <and> security of the Community, it is necessary that the Publick Officers should always be found active and vigilent in the performance and faithful performance discharge of their Duties, that the office of Marshall of the City of is one of the most important offices in said he being the principal Ministerial officer— That the present is guilty of a palpable omission of duty in neglecting to serve a state warrant issued <by> Esqr and placed in the hands of the by for the apprehension of David Smith who was thereby enabled to make his escape from Justice.
We therefore petition your Honourable Body that the present incumbant of the office of of this be removed and some other person be appointed in his stead who will always be found at his post ready and willing to perform and discharge his duties without partiality favour or affection.
And your Petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray—
