To the Sheriff of greeting Whereas information has been given to me under the oath of that Wilson McKinney and John Netherton that there is now assembled in the County of and embodied a large number of armed men to the number of about five hundred whose movements are of a highly insurrectionary and unlawful character, and that a part of the same body of men to the number of One hundred and twenty has surrounded the house of , and has violently taken him and under the threat of immediate Death forced him to sign a paper writing of an degradeing Character, and have threatened to make all the other citizens of sign the same paper, and have threatened to take the lives of the said and and others on sight, and that said body of men do intend to commit great violence to many of the Citizens of , and that Joseph Smith Jr. and others unknown to said affiants are the leaders of this body of men, and that th it is the intention of the said armed force to take revenge on some and to drive others from the and possess themselves of their lands or to force them to submit to their measures and dictation
