Ca. 1810–14 Dec. 1892. Tobacco merchant. Born in Pennsylvania. Son of David Soby. Married Helen. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by June 1840. Received elder’s license, 6 Dec. 1840, in Nauvoo. Member of Nauvoo Agricultural and Manufacturing Association. Appointed to collect funds for Nauvoo temple, Apr. 1841. Appointed to Nauvoo high council, 9 Apr. 1841. Disfellowshipped by Nauvoo high council, 7 Sept. 1844. Moved to Philadelphia, by 1845; to Greencastle, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania, by Feb. 1847; back to Philadelphia, 1848; and to Beverly, Burlington Co., New Jersey, June 1849. Elected Beverly city councilman, 1851, 1855. Member of Beverly and Dunk’s Ferry Steamboat Company, 1851. Died in Beverly.
