that they would swear any thing to promote the Interest of Joe Smith or the Mormon Church— Those men reside at at present, The general impression among the people their, is that Joe Smith could prove up any Case.
Cross-Examined by plaintiff’s Counsel—
The general impression of these people is that these leading men are linked with Joe Smith for the purpose of defrauding the people— And this is the reason why they are disbelieved under oath—
Reexamined by s Counsel. Question. Was the fact of these men to whom you have referred, being prominent Mormons & subject to Joe Smith’s influence, the only foundation for the general impression against their truth & veracity?
Answer— No. It was founded on their immoral conduct & manner of Dealing— (This last answer was objected by the pltff’s Counsel— And further deponent saith not.
