Biography
9 June 1805–25 Nov. 1879. Stonecutter, merchant, prison warden. Born in Holliston, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. Son of Luther Rockwood and Ruth Perry. Married Nancy Haven, 4 Apr. 1827. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Brigham Young, 25 July 1837, in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Moved to Ohio. Returned to Massachusetts, May 1838. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, July 1838. Ordained a seventy by Joseph Young, 5 Jan. 1839. Moved to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, 10 Jan. 1839. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1841. Captain in Illinois militia, by Feb. 1841. Appointed drill officer in Nauvoo Legion, 9 Mar. 1841. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Elected Nauvoo city marshal, 1845, but never served because city charter was repealed. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 1 Mar. 1845. Appointed a president of First Quorum of the Seventy, Dec. 1845. Migrated to Salt Lake City, 1847. Served as member of Utah territorial legislature, 1851–1879. Died in Salt Lake City.
