<Saturday Septr 2> I was not well, and <therefore> adjourned Mayor’s Court.
<Sunday " 3> I attended Council with my brother , , , and , and gave much instruction to the brethren in relation to futurity. things behind the vail. <in futurity.>
A tremendous storm at Chester, Penn. The creek rose 23 feet in two hours, and swept away all the bridges, many factories, and houses, and more than <upwards> of twenty persons drowned.
A was held at Hayward’s Hotel, , England Chas. Miller, President, , Clerk. Present 1 , 1 , 25 , 40 , 21 , and 4 . Total number of members represented were as follows:— 1549 Members, including 44 Elders, 99 Priests, 56 Teachers, 22 Deacons. since last general conference 80, Cut off 29, emigrated 18, removed 26, dead <died> 4.
<Monday 4> Attended the adj Mayor’s Court, and tried 3 cases, viz. vs A[ugustus] Dodge, & Luther Purtelow. The 2 first I fined five dollars, and the last one dollar and costs. 1 P. M called and gave license for a circus performance, which I attended with my family until 5 P. M.

<Tuesday 5> Went to the at 9 A. M. with Mr Hamilton of , who had obtained a deed from the Sheriff <of the > for Lot 2 Block 103 in <the> City of , for taxes, although I had previously paid them <which is another specimen of the oppression <injustice and rascality> of against me & the Saints who by such foul means *> <* robs me and other Saints & abuses all who are <came> unfortunately in his power> he also <I requested my clerk to make out> a Bill of Fare for the Tavern <>. to be made out.
The ship “Metoka” sailed from with a company of saints on board.
<Wednesday 6> I went to the ’s early <about 6½ a m>, and found him in bed. Held Mayor’s Court on the case, “ vs Joseph Owen.”
<Thursday 7> I took home the letter written to Harrisburg for the Church history, <a small fragment of which only has been preserved &> which is as follows:
“Messs. Editors (Copy from MS.) ending “tenor”
Called at the , and administered the to Sister Partington and her two children.
Dreadful Conflagration at Stuhlweissenburg <in Hungary>; from four to eight <about six> hundred houses destroyed. [p. 67]
