him— Saw a great crowd of people there, but did not see any man I knew— thinks there were 150 there— did not see them <any> disguised— Isacquainted with. did not see any of them there— The crowd left immediately after Smith was killed— and went off west from the Jail— I heard nothing, but they told me to stand back and not to interfere with the crowd— heard nothing <said> about killing Smith— There was so much noise could not tell what was said— was acquainted with Joseph Smith— knows it was him that was killed— The Crowd left in two minutes after he went there— he went to assist the guard— Did not hear any say as they were retreating that they had killed Smith— Saw none of them examine his body to see if he was dead— the blood was warm as if he had just been killed most of them appeared to be armed— musk mostly with muskets and a kind of rifle with spring breach<es>— and also <with> knives— saw a knife in the hand of one man— they retreatd in a fast walk— saw no man who gave any orders <any more than another>— [p.
