I live in — I am acquainted with William M. Daniels since last July— became acquainted with him in — has had conversations with him about his being in a witness in this case about three times— He so The first time he came to , he told me he came from Augusta— we are both coopers,— and I asked him the news about the Mormon news— he Said he wished that all the Mormons in were driven out, and that he was sorry they ever Came into the at all— He then went to and came back and told me that he had made a great speculation in writing a book— I asked him what book he was a writing— He told me that he was writing a book about these proceedings in — I told him that he had said he knew nothing about it— He said that as long as he could make a speculation he was bound to do it— I asked him if he made any money, he said no— that he had got $100— in trade that would answer him as well— I told him that he had not the abilities to write a book, that he was not a man of any great figures as I had tried him— he told me that he had friends to aid him in it— that as we were brother chips he would tell me about it— that he did not wish think it was right for any man who could make a living easier to work so— hard— and that he intended to get his living without working so hard— Some afterwards he proposed to me to go hunting with him, in October or November last—— we went to hunt about six or Seven miles— we talked as we went along— was talking about the Smiths and writing this book— he Said he was to get $500 to Swear against Some people— he did not mention any name.
