did not See come back from the jail— I remained on a jury of inquest there— when we went up to the Jail was on a corner of the Square— Did not hear say any thing about the murder— When I first saw , I had got up from a sleep about four o clock, and Saw <Standing on the Steps at after he had eaten his dinner.> did not see or [William] Grover that evening nor — I belonged to <a company called> the Rifle men— we went up <to the jail> as a company— the two companies were left here— not full— not more than 30 men in <either>— did not see or after the event happened— the told us all to leave here— but <none> remained here except myself and <the> family <I was staying with that night>— the came here the same night— from — after night— and left the same night—
6th John D Mellon [Mellen]— was not in that day or night— left here the 15th of May— and was in at Worcester <West Borough about> at that time— I got back the 1st of August—
Lives in — and keeps tavern in — kept tavern there at the time this occurrence took place— was at home that night— good many there at supper about dark— not a large number of persons called at my house about 11 oclock that night for Supper— dont know who called at [Samuel] Flemings tavern— Saw there [p. 11]
